This 4-piece wheel opening molding set is designed for 1970–1972 Chevelle and Malibu models to restore the factory wheel lip appearance and protect the wheel openings from chips and corrosion. Each molding is precision-formed to follow the original wheel opening contour for an authentic fit and finished with a corrosion-resistant surface for long-lasting durability. Ideal for restorations or maintenance, the set secures trim edges, helps prevent paint damage from road debris, and provides a clean, finished look while being straightforward to install with basic tools.
Features:
  • Fits 1970–1972 Chevrolet Chevelle and Malibu (4-piece set for all wheel openings).
  • Four-piece set covers both front and rear wheel openings for a complete restoration look.
  • Precision-formed moldings follow original contours for accurate fitment.
  • Corrosion-resistant finish protects wheel lips and maintains appearance over time.
  • Restores factory appearance while preventing paint damage from road debris and tires.
  • Designed for straightforward installation with common hand tools; suitable for restoration or replacement applications.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Estimated time: 1–2 hours
Suggested Tools:
  • Phillips or flat-head screwdriver (depending on fastener type)
  • Electric drill with 1/16"–1/8" pilot drill bits
  • Measuring tape or ruler
  • Masking tape
  • Center punch or nail
  • Clamps or small vise-grips
  • Automotive-grade sealant or butyl tape
  • Clean rag and solvent (alcohol or wax-and-grease remover)
  • Safety glasses
Instructions:
  1. Clean the wheel opening flange thoroughly of dirt, rust, and old adhesive; wipe with solvent and allow to dry.
  2. Test-fit each molding piece to its corresponding wheel opening to verify orientation and fit; use masking tape to temporarily hold pieces in place if needed.
  3. Mark fastener locations by aligning the molding and using a marker through existing holes (or at suggested spacing every 6–8 inches) while the molding is taped in position.
  4. Remove the molding and center-punch each marked location to prevent drill walk; drill pilot holes sized for the recommended fasteners (or as directed by the molding hardware).
  5. Apply a thin bead of automotive-grade sealant or install butyl tape along the back edge of the molding to help seal and prevent moisture intrusion.
  6. Align the molding over the wheel opening and secure it using the supplied hardware or corrosion-resistant screws; tighten progressively from one end to the other to maintain even fit.
  7. Trim any excess if necessary and wipe away any sealant squeeze-out with a clean rag and solvent.
  8. Inspect the installed molding for gaps, proper alignment, and even fit; make minor adjustments as needed and allow sealant to cure per manufacturer instructions before driving.
