Direct-fit trunk lid engineered for 1967-1968 Ford Mustang hardtop and convertible models. Designed to restore trunk alignment, secure cargo, and renew the rear styling of your classic Mustang, this replacement panel offers durable construction and corrosion-resistant protection. Pre-drilled mounting points simplify installation and make it ideal for restorations, collision repair, or upgrading a rusted or damaged original lid.
Features:
  • Fits 1967-1968 Ford Mustang hardtop and convertible models.
  • Made from heavy-gauge steel for strength and long-term durability.
  • Pre-drilled hinge and latch locations for direct-fit installation.
  • Corrosion-resistant surface treatment to extend service life.
  • Restores correct panel gaps and trunk sealing for improved appearance and function.
  • Requires transfer of original latch, hinges, weatherstripping, and trim for a complete installation.
  • Ideal for restoration projects and replacement after collision damage or rust failure.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 1-2 hours (with an assistant)
Suggested Tools:
  • Socket set and ratchet
  • Torque wrench
  • Screwdrivers (flat and Phillips)
  • Trim/panel removal tool
  • Masking tape and marker
  • Assistant or trunk support stand
  • Lubricant (penetrating oil)
  • Clean cloths
Instructions:
  1. Prepare the vehicle: park on level ground, open the trunk lid, and disconnect the negative battery terminal if wiring will be disconnected.
  2. Support the existing trunk lid with a helper or trunk stand. Remove interior trunk trim if required to access bolts and wiring.
  3. Disconnect any trunk wiring harnesses (license lamp, trunk release) and detach the latch cable or linkage as needed.
  4. Loosen and remove the hinge-to-body fasteners while the lid is supported. Carefully lift the old trunk lid away and set it on a protected surface.
  5. Transfer components from the old lid to the new lid (lock assembly, hinges, latch striker, rubber bumpers, weatherstrip, and trim) following the reverse order of removal.
  6. Prepare mounting surfaces by cleaning and removing rust or debris; apply corrosion inhibitor if desired.
  7. With a helper, position the new trunk lid on the hinges and install hinge bolts loosely to allow for alignment adjustments.
  8. Adjust lid position for even gaps and proper flush fit—use masking tape as a visual guide and move the lid until alignment is satisfactory.
  9. Once aligned, tighten hinge bolts to factory torque specifications. Reconnect wiring harnesses, latch cables, and verify latch engagement.
  10. Reinstall interior trim and weatherstripping as needed. Cycle the trunk open/closed several times to confirm smooth operation and proper sealing.
  11. Prime, paint, and finish the new trunk lid to match the vehicle if it is supplied in bare or primed metal; observe paint curing instructions before final installation of trim.
