Direct-replacement 3/8" long floating gas tank sending unit designed for accurate fuel level measurement in classic muscle cars. Made for 1967 Camaro and 1967–1968 Firebird applications, this sending unit restores correct gauge operation, reduces erratic readings, and provides a reliable, durable solution during restoration or maintenance. Its long float design reaches deeper tanks used on these models and installs into the stock tank opening for a secure, OEM-style fit.
Features:
- Fits 1967 Chevrolet Camaro and 1967–1968 Pontiac Firebird (long floating configuration).
- 3/8" long floating design reaches deeper tanks used on these model years for correct gauge travel.
- Engineered as a direct replacement for the original sending unit to restore accurate fuel level readings.
- Constructed with corrosion-resistant components and sealed electrical connections for long service life.
- Easy-to-install OE-style mounting provides reliable sealing and prevents leaks when installed with a new gasket.
- Ideal for restorations or maintenance to eliminate erratic or non-responsive fuel gauges.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 1-2 hours
Instructions:
- Work in a well-ventilated area and disconnect the negative battery cable before beginning.
- Relieve fuel system pressure and drain or siphon enough fuel so the tank can be safely lowered (catch fuel in a safe container).
- Raise and securely support the vehicle with jack stands. Place a jack or support under the fuel tank.
- Disconnect fuel lines, vent hoses, and the sending unit electrical connector at the tank.
- Support the tank, remove the mounting straps or bolts, and carefully lower the tank enough to access the sending unit flange.
- Remove the retaining ring or screws that secure the old sending unit and lift the unit out, taking care not to damage the float arm.
- Inspect and clean the tank opening. Remove old gasket material and debris, and position the new gasket/seal.
- Install the new long-floating sending unit, ensuring the float moves freely and the arm is not obstructed. Seat the retaining ring or fasteners evenly to secure the unit.
- Reinstall the tank, reconnect fuel lines, vent hoses, and the electrical connector. Tighten straps/bolts to secure the tank.
- Reconnect the negative battery cable, turn the ignition on to cycle and check gauge operation, and inspect for fuel leaks.
- Lower the vehicle and perform a brief road test to confirm accurate gauge readings and leak-free operation.
