A 4-piece set of #8 x 5/8" Phillips pan head tapping screws made from 18-8 stainless steel. These self-tapping screws are designed to fasten interior and exterior trim, panels, brackets and light hardware on most cars, trucks and motorcycles. Their pan head provides a clean, low-profile finish while the 18-8 stainless composition offers strong corrosion resistance and long-term reliability—ideal for restoration, maintenance and repair work. Easy to install and durable, they restore secure attachment where original fasteners are missing or damaged.
Features:
- Fits most automotive trim, interior panels, brackets and light hardware on cars, trucks and motorcycles.
- 18-8 stainless steel construction resists rust and corrosion for long-lasting performance.
- Phillips pan head provides a neat, low-profile appearance and broad bearing surface.
- Self-tapping threads cut into sheet metal and many plastics—no nut required.
- Size: #8 diameter x 5/8" length, sold as a convenient 4-piece set.
- Ideal for restoration, repair and replacement of missing or worn fasteners.
- Easy to install with common hand tools; reduces vibration and secures trim
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 1/5
- Estimated time: 5-20 minutes (depends on number of fasteners and whether pilot holes are needed)
Instructions:
- Identify and mark the mounting location; test-fit the trim or part to ensure alignment.
- If working with hard sheet metal or thick plastic, use a center punch or awl to make a starter dimple at the mark.
- For best results, drill a small pilot hole (about 1/16" for thin sheet metal, up to 3/32" for thicker metal) to ease tapping and reduce the risk of distortion.
- Position the screw in the hole and align the pan head so it sits flush against the part surface.
- Using a Phillips #2 screwdriver or a drill/driver set to low torque, drive the screw straight in. Apply steady pressure and keep the driver perpendicular to the surface.
- Stop tightening when the head is flush and the part is secure; avoid over-torquing which can strip the hole or damage trim and plastics.
- For dissimilar metal assemblies, consider a light coat of anti-seize to prevent galling. For permanent installs, a small amount of threadlocker may be used.
- Inspect the fastened area for proper fit and re-tighten gently if necessary after initial use or vibration.
