Direct-fit idler arm designed for 1967-1982 Chevrolet and GMC trucks and SUVs. The idler arm supports the steering center link on the passenger side, maintaining proper alignment and reducing play in the steering system. Built to restore steering geometry and deliver consistent, reliable operation, this replacement part resists wear and helps prevent uneven tire wear and wandering. Ideal for restoration projects or routine steering system maintenance, it offers durable construction and straightforward installation to get vehicles back on the road with secure, predictable steering.
Features:
  • Fitment: Direct replacement for 1967-1982 Chevrolet and GMC trucks and SUVs.
  • Durable steel housing and hardened pivot for long service life under load.
  • Restores proper steering geometry and reduces free play in the center link.
  • Helps prevent uneven tire wear and wandering by maintaining alignment.
  • Pre-greased or greaseable option to simplify maintenance and extend component life.
  • OE-style mounting for a bolt-on installation—ideal for restorations or repairs.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Estimated time: 30-60 minutes
Suggested Tools:
  • Jack and jack stands
  • Socket set and ratchet
  • Wrenches
  • Torque wrench
  • Ball joint separator or pickle fork (if needed)
  • Hammer
  • Pry bar
  • Grease gun (if greaseable)
Instructions:
  1. Park on level ground, set parking brake and block rear wheels. Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
  2. Raise the front of the vehicle with a jack and support securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel on the side being serviced.
  3. Locate the idler arm on the passenger side steering linkage and inspect the mounting and linkage connections.
  4. Remove the nut and retaining hardware securing the idler arm to the frame bracket. If the idler arm uses a tapered or pressed stud to the center link, use a ball joint separator or pickle fork to separate the linkage from the idler arm stud.
  5. Support the center link to prevent damage to other steering components, then remove the idler arm from the frame bracket.
  6. Compare the new idler arm to the old unit to confirm correct part and orientation. If greaseable, ensure the zerk fitting is accessible.
  7. Install the new idler arm into the frame bracket and loosely install mounting hardware. Reconnect the center link to the idler arm and install the nut. Use a torque wrench to tighten all fasteners to the vehicle manufacturer’s specified torque values.
  8. If applicable, grease the pivot via the zerk fitting until fresh grease appears at the seal. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the wheel lug nuts to spec.
  9. Test-drive at low speed to confirm steering feel and check for unusual noises. After a short drive, re-check torque on idler arm and wheel lug nuts.
